Benefit Cosmetics – I LOVE THEM!!

My blog over the last few months has been full of me having “start of something (everything) new” types of content. I like almost everything and I love to share some good shii with you so WHY THE HELL NOT share some of my favorite makeup items! I realize that soooo many people post this kind of content, but you’d be surprised how many people still ask *me* who doesn’t exactly post super cereal beauty tips or videos, for recommendations.

For this blog, I thought I’d start off with one of my favorite makeup brands, BENEFIT! I don’t want to bore you with the history of my makeup life BUT I’M GONNA BORE YOU A LITTLE! Long story short, I first discovered Benefit through my cousin Jess, who was painting her face with what I thought was nail polish but turns out it was one of their liquid cheek stains! (What a weird name for em LOL)

Now on to my faves! First I’d like to share HIGH BEAM! This beautiful little bottle encases the liquid highlight of the Liquid Highlight Gods. I have been using this highlight for years and I love how much I can cake on (cuz high beam.jpgthat’s in right now) and it still blends out cute! I’ve tried powder highlights before and there are some that I really like, but this is my go-to! There’s an itty bitty version here

Next is the Benefit Porefessional. This is something I haven’t actually porefessionalused in a few years cuz I ran out LOL but I did really love it! My foundation looked smoother and I loved putting this on my nose cuz I noticed the redness of my nose wasn’t peeking out as much throughout the day. Mini guy here!

Cute fact/tip: I tried this with eyeshadow primer and it actually works too!

DALLAS AND HOOLA HAVE BEEN MY FAVE BRONZERS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF… me wearing Benefit makeup so like 6 years or something. I wouldn’t say this is the smoothest of bronzers, but when I apply this with a clean brush and blend them out a bit, I loooooove the definition and the way the colors look on my skin.

Normally, I use eyeshadow to do my eyebrows. *GASP* When I’m recording videos I don’t necessarily need my brows to look perfect so eyeshadow is the way to go most of the time. I did use their Brow Zings Tame & Shape Kit when my hair was lighter though, and I didn’t realize how easy it was to get them “on fleek.” Are people still saying that? Lol.

they're realLast but not least, They’re Real! This mascara, in my opinion, is one of the best I’ve ever had. The wand has kept my lashes from being clumpy as I can be a bit clumsy when I apply mascara and the mascara itself, in my experience it lasts forever, doesn’t really smudge, and it comes off easily when I’m done clogging my pores for the day.

Do you use any of these?! What are some of your favorite Benefit products as I’m always wanting to try out new products but like to know what people think, especially those of us who have stuff in common.

Have an amazing day!

I Like Pretty Pink Dresses

Great Lakes!
I love me some pretty dresses and I love me some special occasions (especially weddings) and today I’m here to talk about this SUPER cute rose pink dress! While I was away in Boston, we were given the task to choose a dress that we would most likely wear at a special occasion. The choices were between maxi, midi, skater, swing/shift and tunic! I immediately wanted the skater because that usually means knee length, flowy, and possibly a sweetheart neckline! I searched through the site and saw this rose pink skater dress and was like MINE. It hit basically every mark I have on my list of “this is what I want as a guest at a wedding” dress:

It’s flirty. It’s pink. It’s cute. It’s flowy. It’s got a sweetheart neckline. It fits LOL.

So I asked and I received! On top of the things I mentioned above, the dress is actually very comfortable and is heavy enough to withstand SOME wind. All I know is that I won’t be worrying about anyone seeing my undies because of any random UK gusts of wind this summer. I might have to worry in the Fall but still LOL.

Me being the proper lady I am. Some objects in picture are more LIES than they appear LOL. I’m not a liar though just that first sentence of this caption was OK SO.

That detailing tho!

My Issues with Wearing Heels

Lort have I had trouble with shoes no matter where I’ve shopped. I’ve had mostly negative experiences because when I try on shoes I get discouraged; my ankles are either too big or my actual feet are too big to fit parts of the actual shoe.

When I wear heels… Actually I don’t. I never wear heels. The only time I think I’ve ever been seen wearing heels is at a couple of photoshoots I’ve done over the years only because I didn’t’ have to walk in them lmao. The reason why I don’t wear heels is because 99% of my experiences have not been good ones. I thought it could be partly my fault because I always went for those tiny, thin heels with hardly any support on the bottoms.

I had basically given up on finding heels. I was however, given the task to talk about wide fit shoes and was a bit reluctant at first because of my issues I have with even wide fit shoes. I almost changed my task but being the never giver upper person I am (LOL I’ve given up on quite a few things through life, who hasn’t) I decided to give heels another try at Yours.

Now before I share my new experiences, I’m going to share the top mistakes I’ve made because if you think there are any similarities in our body types, it might help!

1. I have bought shoes with a thick second strap over the vamp area, does that make sense? I don’t have a big arch on my foot but I do have pretty chubby and wide feet. They don’t fit and there’s no point in wasting my money on shoes that I can’t even put on.

2. I’ve bought shoes that are wide, or “e” before but they apparently aren’t wide enough for me. I’d still have to size up and I’d look like I was wearing clown shoes. My feet wouldn’t have any support and would feel very sore just after a few minutes of walking. I’ve found that EEE is the best option in sizing for me.

3. High tops are usually a no-no. I have the Vans Bo Peep shoes that came out last year and they fit just fine but I had to size up. I wouldn’t recommend walking in them for a long time though.

4. As I mentioned before, long, tiny heels are horrible for me. There’s not enough balance and almost immediately I am uncomfortable and even though they look pretty, they are not for me.

All this said, it’d probably be best to try shoes on in person unless you’ve never had these issues. BUT NOW TO MOVE ON TO THE GOOD STUFF!

Even though I was reluctant at first, I did give heels another shot and purposely bought extra wide fit shoes that had more of a platform heel and toe. Here’s what I feel about my top 3:

1. First are these Black Comfort Insole Suede Wedges

Screen Shot 2017-04-17 at 10.47.45 PM
They are the narrowest of the three at the heel, but they are still very comfortable! I am a bit wobbly in these still but I think it’s just a matter of getting used to walking around in heels. The insole provides support and like the next two, adds automatic comfort that I am very thankful for LOL.

2. Black Comfort Insole Platform Slingback Heels with Glitter Bow

Screen Shot 2017-04-17 at 10.46.28 PM

They are still chunky but they are more comfortable on the back of my ankles. They don’t dig into the back of my foot like a lot of shoes normally do because of the strap and I feel like I’m about to walk the runway in these because they’re pretty high up but still very manageable!

3. Last but not least, and my ultimate FAVES!!! Black Comfort Insole Platform Sandals with Block Heel

Screen Shot 2017-04-17 at 9.21.35 PM

These are the actual best and the most comfortable heels/platforms I have ever worn. They are available in EEE and I was so surprised the second I put them on. I was able to walk in them right away, and because they have a little elastic on the buckle, they close with no issues. I spent hours wearing and walking in them with socks on at home (cuz that’s a tip I learned on how to break them in) and my knees, calves, and feet didn’t hurt at all! This is the first ever pair that I actually felt 100% comfortable in and confident in being able to wear them out. I’m still working my way up (and almost wore them last week but rain and NAH AH CHICA I’M NOT ABOUT TO FALL ON MY FACE JUST TO LOOK CUTE LMAO) to wearing them outdoors but you know that Manchester weather! When I wear em out, you’ll definitely see it happen hahaha!

Who Doesn’t Like a Flowy Spring Outfit?

melmc

I was given the task by Yours Clothing to create a celebrity style steal featuring trends that are in right now and the first person I thought of was one of my favorite plus size cuties, Melissa McCarthy.

When I saw this look I immediately fell in love! To me, this outfit would be made even more perfect with a wind machine in front of her at all times to showcase her diva & boss lady status LOL. I’ve always admired her sense of style (and humor) whether it’s something she wore in the movies or something more casual off screen. I think I actually let out a little gasp because of how cute I think this look is.

Going back to the Yours task, this casual but floating-on-a-cloud look for spring inspired me to put my steal together. I chose a light, airy, pink top, a black and white midi skirt, white heels, suede bucket bag, and crystal drop earrings to pull the whole look together. You can get the following items on Yours Clothing‘s website and here’s a price breakdown with the links!:
Pink Top -£21
Black & White Midi Skirt – On Sale!!! £8.50
White heels £19
Suede Bucket Bag – £16
Crystal Drop Earrings – £4

I chose this look for spring because this an outfit that I would personally wear – especially if I could wear heels, but more on that later this week. My style has always been about comfort and when I look at this outfit not only do I see comfort but also versatility. It’s something you could wear for business meetings, a cute brunch, afternoon tea or even just to go out and have a fun picnic in the spring sun!

What is MY Fashion? -Feat. Yours Clothing

YAY! I’ve been shortlisted for the Yours Clothing “Be The Blogger” competition! I want to thank Yours Clothing for this awesome opportunity and thanks to everyone helped me get to the top 10! To those of you who didn’t know, I have for most of my adult life been working for myself and so much has changed over the last 7 years. I did not expect fashion to become a big part of my work even though it’s something I wanted to pursue since I was a teen but never knew how to get into. I’ve always told myself that I would absolutely not rely on everything I want to just fall into my lap: I needed to make things happen for myself if ANYTHING was going to happen at all. I started reaching out to brands on my own, doing all the research and to my surprise, I was getting a response from people in the fashion world out here. I did a couple of jobs, made some friends, and met some really sweet girls in the plus size community.

When it comes to my particular style, I have to feel comfortable first. That doesn’t mean that I  have to wear baggy clothes to hide my goodies in order to achieve the ultimate level of comfy. For example, I could wear Spanx to make my body feel smoother under a dress or jeans, tights because I feel like some dresses are too short on me, and FLATS ALL DAY ERRY DAY because as much as I love the way heels look, nah ah chica, I can’t walk around in them all day… ok not even for 10 minutes but that’s a whole other story hahaha.photo-17-01-2017-4-35-41-pm

I love a simple look that you can jazz up to be a night look, or jazz… down (?) to have a more casual look. This is one of the things I really appreciate about Yours Clothing. A lot of their items are comfortable, but can be either dressed up or dressed down depending on where you’re going, what you’re doing and what your personal taste is.

One of my favorite outfits this year that screamed COMFORT and versatility was this black and white striped top and textured striped skirt from Yours. I loved wearing it because not only is it comfortable, it’s super cute and you can mix and match the top and skirt with just about a bajillion different things and the whole look didn’t take me 10 years to put together.

The second thing to know about my take on fashion is that I am passionate about what I’m wearing whether it’s something simple or flashy. I’ve always picked things out that I would feel great in and even though shopping as a woman can be stressful, I eventually find what I’m looking for and BAM! THE OUTFIT TO REPEAT AT MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS IS HERE! (As seen below ;D)

Making my way downtown…

2016-07-03-02-36-30At the pub… for dinner… don’t pay attention to the Screwdriver I had in my hand that I am definitely NOT drinking. (I drank the whole thing and I loved it.)

Last but not least, I wanted to mention how much fun it is to take something simple and have the item pull the entire look together. We went to MCM Comic Con out here in Manchester last year and I needed a top to go with my Lilo costume and found this one from Yours.

^ Me & my BFF who is totally NOT a human being dressed as a friendly neighborhood feline.

When Ali and I moved over to the UK, it was like starting over.In the US I had my favorite plus size stores that I had been shopping from for years. Coming over here I had no idea what was available to me and in all honesty it made me feel pretty worried because I didn’t think I would be able to find brands that I would love as much as the ones I was used to. I can’t remember how I came across Yours Clothing but it just happened to be one of the first places I tried and ordered a couple of items  which I’m pretty sure was underwear and jeans. Jeans and I have not had a great relationship because I have short lil’ legs and have rarely found a pair I love but as soon as they arrived and I tried them on it was like “A WHOLE NEEEEWW WORRRRLLD MEEEEE”. Since then they have been my go-to place for almost everything and what’s great is it doesn’t break mine or Ali’s bank ;).

Honorable mention: These Marie PJs are comfy AF and got them at a sale Yours were having and I bring them along whenever we’re staying somewhere overnight because they’re also cute and I want the world to see them always.

MEOWWWWW – Cat Sweater! Cat Sweater Can Save Anythiiiiing!

Whoever guess where that post came from I’ll give you a mind dollar.

10689435_10152789483811591_274649184210301756_nOutfit of The Day!

It’s a really simple and comfy outfit since that’s how most of my outfits end up being.

Shoes – Evans
Leggings – Torrid
CAT SWEATER – Evans

I’ve noticed a pretty big difference between British & American clothing and to me, the difference is that they’re true to size. Maybe they’re truer to my size on my body type, but it’s a relief! I’ll probably do a video/blog about the difference in more depth later but I thought I’d show off my super cute sweater. I will need to start stocking up on Christmas cat sweaters so if any of you have any recommendations send them my way!

September Favorites 2014!

Here’s a list of where I got all of my items for my September Favorites 🙂

Caterton – My cat sweater from Evans! My mother in law actually spotted this for me. She knew once I saw this I had to have it… so now I have it haha!

PLANNER: Here’s where I got my “life planner” by Erin Condren that again was sent to me from a subbie. IT’S SO DETAILED I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Someone tried to give me sass once by saying “PEOPLE THAT USE PLANNERS ARE VERY UNORGANIZED AND DON’T KNOW HOW TO USE THEIR BRAINS.” Continue reading
